In today's digital age, active engagement between parents and children in meaningful activities is vital to develop crucial pre-literacy skills and reduce screen time.
Pre-literacy Skills:
Early literacy skills encompass everything a child knows about reading and writing before they can read or write. Six essential skills make up early literacy and help determine a child's readiness to learn to read and write:
1. Print Motivation
2. Print Awareness
3. Letter awareness
4. Phonological awareness (rhyming words)
5. Vocabulary
6. Comprehension
7. Listening

Our Workshop: A Heartwarming Experience
We recently hosted a fantastic workshop for parents and their children aged 3 to 8. The event was filled with laughter, learning, and bonding moments, which warmed our hearts.
Highlights of the Day
During our hour-long session, parents and children engaged in various activities centred around pre-literacy skills. Our workshop featured several engaging activities:
- Parents and children drawing together
- Music and movements for all
- Parents taking a quiz on language-related activities
Witnessing the children's curiosity come alive right before their parents' eyes was magical. Equally delightful was watching the children observe their parents as learners, reinforcing that education begins at home and the bond formed during these early years of learning is truly precious.

Beyond Workshop
Our workshop aimed to make a difference by including parents in their children's literacy journeys. We focused on giving parents a rich experience of engaging with their children that they can recreate at home.
To help continue the learning at home, we provided each family with an activity kit containing materials and instructions for parents to use with their children, reinforcing the pre-literacy skills introduced during the workshop.
The Power of Parent-Child Engagement
The main idea behind this workshop was to encourage parents to engage with their children in mindful activities that help them bond well and support the child's learning journey. When parents and children work together on these skills, it creates a positive learning environment and strengthens their bond.
"The greatest gift you can give your child is your time." This quote perfectly encapsulates what we aim to achieve through our workshops. By investing time in these activities, parents are laying the groundwork for their child's future success and fostering a love for learning.
